“Before During Future” is a collaborative artwork created by Tomer Peretz alongside over 100 survivors of the Nova incident. Guided by Tomer, each individual used specific materials and techniques to express themselves through three distinct parts: “Before October 7th,” “During October 7th,” and their aspirations for the “Future.”
After completing their expressions, Tomer integrated his own interpretation onto their work. This project was initiated under The Peretz Foundation’s Art Healing program, known as The 8 Project. Proceeds from sales will support this program and Tomer’s rehabilitation center, which continues to host survivors and individuals affected by the recent conflict.
The original artwork combines all three segments into a single piece measuring 216” x 72”. Limited edition of 100 hand signed on Fine Art Paper Giclee prints of each segment are available for separate purchase with the size of: 16”x16.
Just Kids
- 2024
- Pastel, Oil, Spray Paint and Markers on Canvas
- "Just Kids" is a poignant painting created with a group of 30 children, aged 5 to 14, from the Gaza Envelope, who survived the October 7th attack. Initially, Tomer envisioned a bright and uplifting piece, starting with three happy faces and vibrant colors. However, within just 20 minutes, the kids chose to take a different path. They found darker colors around in the studio and even mixed paints to change the colors depicting more somber sentiments. One child painted a haunting image of a burnt baby, while another illustrated a helicopter shot down near their village that day, alongside rockets and missiles. To enhance their powerful expressions, Tomer added realistic elements over their work, highlighting the depth of their experiences and emotions. The finished painting measures 69 x 77 inches and combines acrylic, spray paint, oil, and pastel, creating a layered narrative that speaks to both the innocence of childhood and the harsh realities they face.
ZAKA
- 2024
- original size: 48"x60
- medium: Acrylic on Canvas
- This painting was created by Tomer and his team from Zaka in Israel, the group that enlisted him to recover the deceased in the aftermath of the October 7th attack. Tomer aimed to convey the profound pain and horrific experiences they endured during those days. He invited Nicole to participate in the art project; she is a survivor who recognized her mother’s body in footage shared by Tomer on social media. Months after the attack, Nicole reached out, seeking to understand how her mother was found and whether she had suffered. During the art project, Tomer and his team addressed her questions, collaboratively telling her story on the canvas. The painting symbolizes their resilience and unwavering faith in God as they work to ensure the respectful burial of Jewish bodies.
Paratroopers
- 2024
- original size: 80”x82”
- medium: Acrylic, Charcoal, Spray paint, Pastel, Markers, Oil on canvas.
-
This painting was created by Tomer and a group of reserve soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade. During the process, one soldier experienced his first PTSD trigger, and Tomer immediately recognized the signs. He spent an hour with the soldier, providing support during a very difficult mental moment, while the rest of the team continued painting under Tomer's direction. Since then, Tomer has stayed in contact with the soldier, who is now feeling much better.
The piece symbolizes both the intensity of their fight in Gaza and the healing journey that followed. It encapsulates the soldiers’ stories and experiences, capturing the duality of war and recovery.
Superhero
- 2024/2025
- original size: 48”X60”
- medium: Pastel, Markers, and oil on Canvas
-
Super Hero was created by Tomer and a group of 20 bereaved children, aged 6 to 12, who lost a family member. The prompt given was "super hero," as Tomer wanted to avoid directly addressing their trauma. Instead, he introduced the concept of a superhero, which encouraged the children to talk about and create representations of their personal heroes.
Most of the children compared an animated superhero to the father, brother, sister, or mother they had lost. For many, this was the first time they shared their stories about the loved ones they had lost. Tomer added the realistic elements of the painting to emphasize the children's strength in opening up and honoring their loved ones, turning their personal grief into a powerful expression of resilience and memory.
Naivety
- 2024/2025
- original size: 32”X32”
- medium: Acrylic and oil on Canvas
-
Tomer hosted a family from Nir Oz, who tragically lost many of their neighbors and friends. The father fought for hours against terrorists who had broken into their home, while the wife and daughter were locked in a safe room, listening to the chaos. The 9-year-old daughter, traumatized by witnessing the violence, painted a blue sky and a green field with fire burning across it.
Tomer included her as the artist in the painting, highlighting her perspective of the event. By focusing on her vision, the artwork emphasizes both the innocence of the child and the contrast between the horror of the moment and her attempt to express a positive, peaceful vision through the chaos. It’s a powerful representation of resilience and the child’s ability to find hope amidst trauma.
Andrei
- 2024
- original size: 48"x60"
- medium: Oil on Canvas
- This portrait of Andrei Kozlov, who was held hostage for 8 months and rescued in June 2024, was created while he worked in Tomer’s studio for three months. The 8 Project (Tomer's initiative) brought Andrei into an art program with 8. This painting symbolizes the process of rehabilitation through art for someone who has experienced profound trauma. Inspired by 8 and Tomer’s work, Andrei has now decided to pursue a new career as an artist.
Survivor
- 2024
- original size: 48"x60
- medium: Acrylic on Canvas
- This is the first artwork Tomer created with survivors, completed just weeks after the war began. Finding it difficult to connect with those who hadn’t lived through the conflict, he invited survivors to his studio to paint alongside him. As they gathered, they shared their experiences, pouring their feelings of sadness, pain, and hope for the hostages onto the canvas. This painting marks the inception of Tomer's art project, serving as a poignant testament to their shared journey.
